I have been seeing my girlfriend for just over 15 months and we'd enjoyed some good times together and I have a great relationship with her 7 year old daughter as well. In the last few months, she has lost her nan to cancer and she tried to end the relationship due to the stress this put her under but I managed to talk her round into maybe giving us a chance to work through the problems she was facing ( she is prone to depression) About 6 weeks ago, her sisters started causing problems for her by telling lies about her and this has caused a lot of conflict in the family. Our relationship has suffered as a consequence and there's a real distance between us that I can't seem to bridge. Me, her and her daughter still go out to places but I can see her sometimes drifting into one of her low moods and nothing I can say or do can bring her round. We dont hold hands or have any contact in the relationship which I really miss as it was something that had always been there before. I want to help her through her issues which are really denting her self-esteem as I am so frightened of losing her and her daughter as they mean so much to me. Someone suggested that maybe I should work on getting her confidence boosted by lavishing her with gifts or surprises to counteract the negativity she is getting from her family. Another solution I thought of was maybe suggesting counselling or hypnotherapy to help her deal with the stresses she is finding herself under at the moment. Can anyone help as it is breaking my heart to see her in this way and I just want things back to the way they were a few months ago before all this happened. Basically… Lavish gifts won't help her at all, she needs to see a counselor to help her get through her depression.
