Does a man’s choice of deodorant really affect his success with women?
You must have seen those TV adverts for Lynx deodorant. You know the ones where the normal or geeky bloke sprays himself with the stuff and women start falling over him uncontrollably. Its like those old aftershave adverts from the seventies which had much the same message use this product and you are guaranteed to get laid.
I cant help wondering if any men actually believe that. I suppose there must be a few as Lynx is still the most popular mens deodorant despite the fact that it really doesnt smell very nice at all. To me its the smell of the teenage boys years ago at school, the ones who were trying so hard not to smell of B.O but couldnt be bothered with showering so would coat themselves in the stuff so you couldnt go anywhere in the building without that smell invading your nostrils. Definitely not something Id want to be reminded of in a potential boyfriend.
The odd thing is that so many men still seem to think that using Lynx or other similar products will give them more luck with women. The truth is I dont think Iknow any women who would choose a man simply for the way he smells. No, you dont want your man to stink but there are other factors that make a far better first impression than the deodorant he wears.
Think about all the celebrity magazines in the shops. Unless theyre endorsing a particular product when do you ever see a story about what a celebrity smells like? You dont, because it doesn’t matter. Whats much more attractive is a man who takes care of himself and looks good as a result.
Lynx aside, many men are still afraid of the stigma of using male grooming products in case it looks like theyre not being manly enough. The truth is that taking care of your skin and body will make you look your best all the time, and everyone knows when you look good you feel good too. Looking after your skin and hair by regularly using products like those from American Crew and Tend Skin will mean you will always look great. And if you still like the idea of smelling nice too then Molton Brown do a good selection of nice fragrances for men without that horrible choking effect of aerosol deodorants like Lynx.
